The Consumer Building Guide
The Consumer building guide is a mandatory document issued by NSW Fair Trading. By law, tradespeople must give consumers a copy of the guide before they sign a contract for residential building work worth more than $5,000. You can download the guide here directly from Fair Trading NSW.

Home Building Compensation (HBC)
Home Building Compensation cover is required by law as per the Home Building Act 1989, for work carried out directly for the home owner in excess of $20,000 including GST. The period of insurance is two years for unstructured work such as electrical.
As required by the Home Building Act 1989, CES provides Home Building Compensation cover for projects carried out directly for the owner in excess of $20,000 including GST. Proof of HBC cover is issued once the contract is signed by the client.
